The Open, Distance & e-Learning Campus is spearheading the Partnership for Embedded and Blended Learning (PEBL) programme on behalf of the University of Nairobi and was represented at the Senior Engagement meeting held on April 16, 2018 by Prof. Christopher Gakuu - Director, Odel Campus and Dr. Augustine Mwangi, Instructional Designer, ODeL Campus. Also in attendance was Mr. Michael Wangai - Director, Quality Assurance, University of Nairobi.

The Association of CommonWealth Universities through the Partnership for Enhanced and Blended Learning (PEBL) programme aims to partner with universities from Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania to share scarce teaching capacity through the use of blended learning and effective approaches to teaching. The project aims include:

  1. Promote the use of blended learning in universities
  2. Enhance teaching quality and student outcomes
  3. Address shortage of qualified academic staff through blended learning
  4. Reduce heavy teaching workloads on teaching staff

The Commonwealth of Learning (CoL) have a long track record in strengthening capacity in quality assurance systems and in the use of open educational resources. CoL will help to strengthen university QA systems to ensure that they are able to respond effectively to blended-learning courses.

The Commission for University Education (CUE) is a project partner and will provide guidance and assurance regarding the recognition of PEBL programmes. Programmes will then be approved by Senate and quality assured, in which case the accreditation of the degree programmes in which they are included in will not be effected.
